A truly great book. I am distilled in awe.
By Roberto Gonzalez
I'm an urban and regional planner and i bought this book because i wanted to know more about architectural plans and building codes. Haven't really gotten around because of side projects, but i have leisurely reviewed this book and it has all these great tips on how to read floor plans. The explanations are detailed, tests are included, and it also has large floor plans folded neatly in the book!! I recommend it to anyone interested in the modest art of reading structural diagrams! great reference guide to have at your office/cubicle.

Great, dense, a tad out-dated
By Big McLargehuge
This textbook was full of useful information, and it was used by a teacher of mine when she presented an architectural drafting and blueprint class. It was a great reference, and even the photos were a bit outdated, most of the technology and engineering advice has stayed consistent. It would be nice if there was an addendum added that spoke more about efficient use of energy in the residence, and green tech, but again, we're dealing with a slightly different era. This is a great book just to have for building and/or sketching reference.
It has large, fold-out sketches of real buildings, and it gets into HVAC, landscape, foundations, and many other parts of building and engineering than I expected from an architectural planning text. This was my first foray into this type of book in this subject matter, and it was very good. A little dense, but good.

Basic Guide
By Regular Guy
This is the required textbook for class. The exams given to us are directly from the book, so it was necessary to purchase this book. But as the professor points out, there is some information that is incorrect or outdated. Only an experienced Architect or Contractor can sort out the information in this book and make an effective critique. In my opinion, some of the explanations are too short, leaving the student with many questions. I guess this book can be considered as a basic guide.

From Publishers Weekly
A hit in England when first published in 1983, Sidhwa's first novel is a riotous mix of barnyard humor and a loving portrayal of the Parsi, the ancient Persian people who migrated to India centuries ago.
Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal
As his ox-drawn cart labors north, Faredoon Jungelwalla has no destination in mind. He just has faith, as all Parsees have, that he will know it when he sees it. And in Lahore his faith is rewarded. Inspired by the small Parsee community rushing to greet him, he settles in then and there, opening a store and depositing his wife and her loathsome mother Jerbanoo on the floor above. As years pass and his wealth increases, so does Jerbanoo's elephantine girth, but neither measure matches the dimension of their hatred for each other. Still, Faredoon is a realist. Things could change. The death of his favorite son is proof, as is the unexpected marriage of his ugly son Behram to the beautiful Tanya Easymoney. And India is changing. "Jolly good for jolly good, fart for fart, the cultures of East and West" are meeting. This is a comic novel stuffed with rich, spicy characters. Sidhwa makes every step of Faredoon's journey through time and culture a joy to read.

unique and delightful read
By priyanka
Bapsi Sidhwa’s obvious affection for the Parsee community sits at the heart of the novel yet in no way prevents her from poking fun at its all too human foibles. The humour is irreverent but irresistible.

Humor aside, it is the emotional ones that will grip your mind & heart. I still remember the scene of Soli’s funeral where the touching humanity of his otherwise improbably insufferable father overwhelmed me.

Sidhwa--herself a Parsi from Lahore--sets up a very convincing fictional narration of “Freddy,” his family and how he lives and makes others live their lives. By the way, Crow eaters is the slang for noisy talkative people, if you were wondering.

The story line flows effortlessly as Bapsi spans about half a century covering the lives of two generations of Parsees in Lahore . The glimpses of Lahore in the early 20th century provide an interesting backdrop to the novel. Crow Eaters is not only entertaining and funny but also provides a good understanding of the history, religious practices and ethics of the Parsees in the subcontinent, a small community that has survived by being adaptive , adopting the dress, food and language of its host nation, yet preserving its identity by maintaining age old customs of fire worship and death rites.

Interesting book about pre-partition India
By Mary Ann Maslowski
I was interested in the book because I spent four years in Lahore and have very fond memories of it.
This book didn't give me much in the way of incite into Lahore in pre-partition days, but it was interesting.
The beginning of the book is very amusing - about the trip by bullock cart to Lahore but it gets a little fanciful after than and not so believable.
An easy read and entertaining.

Bapsi Sidhwa takes the readers back to the magical past of India where in theory there is tolerance and acceptance of the magnanimous diversity. She creates a nostalgia for readers unfamiliar with Parsi culture feel familiar with their amazing past.

Praise for Generative Programming

“The book develops strong themes around unifying principles that tie the pieces together, most notably domain engineering and metaprogramming. It’s crucial to understand that this book is not just some refreshing diversionn or just an exposition of some noteworthy niche techniques. It is a harbinger of a broader enlightenment that opens the door to a new age.”

—from the foreword by JAMES COPLIEN, a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies' Bell Laboratories, Naperville, IL

“Generative Programming offers a well-written and comprehensive discussion that integrates object technology and domain engineering. The authors’ approach to software systems generation provides very clear insights into practices essential for systematic reuse and software product lines.”

—SHOLOM COHEN, a Senior Member of the Technical Staff of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), Pittsburgh, PA, and a co-developer of the Feature Oriented Domain Analysis (FODA) method

“If you believe that the systems you develop today will share concepts with the systems you will develop tomorrow, then the practical techniques presented in this book will reduce your time to market, decrease your engineering costs, and improve your software quality. These techniques are essential for both practitioners and researchers concerned with modern system development.”

—JAMES NEIGHBORS, President of Bayfront Technologies, Inc., Newport Beach, CA, and the author of the Draco approach

“The authors present a grand tour of Generative Programming which is bound to become a classic. They properly focus on the generally unappreciated connection between Domain Specific Languages and Generative Programming as a motivation for future development. The wide-ranging and practical methods for Domain Analysis and Domain Engineering describe the first steps that developers can take right now. They are valuable both when existing systems are used or in preparation for emerging new generative technologies.”

—CHARLES SIMONYI, Chief Architect at Microsoft Research, Redmond, WA, and the inventor of Intentional Programming

Generative Programming (GP) offers great promise to application developers. It makes the idea of moving from Ione of a kindO software systems to the semi-automated manufacture of wide varieties of software quite real. In short, GP is about recognizing the benefits of automation in software development. Generative Programming covers methods and tools that will help you design and implement the IrightO components for a system family and automate component assembly. The methods presented here are applicable for all commercial development--from "programming in the small," at the level of classes and procedures--to "programming in the large," or developing families of large systems.

Generative Programming is your complete guide and reference to this emerging discipline. It provides in-depth treatment of critical technologies and topics including:

  • Domain Engineering
  • Feature Modeling
  • Generic Programming
  • Aspect-Oriented Programming
  • Template Metaprogramming in C++
  • Generators
  • Microsoft's Intentional Programming

Using this book you will learn how these techniques fit together and, more importantly, how to apply them in practice. The text contains three comprehensive case studies in three different domains: programming domain (container data structures), business domain (banking), and scientific computing (matrix computations).

The advent of most any new programming book evokes the question: What is, or will be, the place of this book in history? That a book even evokes that question itself says something exciting, something about paradigm shifts or about new ideas or about breaking with old ways. And it is a curiously pertinent question for this book in these times.

Over the past ten years the object-oriented literature has seen a peppering of apparently unrelated ideas ranging from subject-oriented programming to components. What they all had in common is that there was something decidedly unobject-oriented about each of them, though each of them spent time in the object-oriented limelight. But in the past one or two years many of these fragments have found common ground and have rallied together around common themes: metaobject protocols, reflection, intentionality, an insightful interpretation of components, the cutting of features across structure and, in general, the breakdown of classic models of simple modularity. For me, one of the highlights of 1999 was the First International Symposium on Generative and Component-Based Software Engineering (GCSE '99) in Erfurt, Germany, where many researchers had already linked many of these ideas together and shared a consciousness about their significance. But it is just one forum where these ideas came together; one sees the same things at many conference workshops and in some of the emerging literature.

It's always difficult to assess history from within the events that contribute to it, but it is perhaps no less responsible nor dangerous to do so than to try to interpret it after the fact, distanced from the firsthand events. In that spirit, look around and consider that we might, right now, be at a crucial turning point in computer science, particularly in the area of programming and design technique. The industry has been struggling with how to move beyond the limiting confines of the object paradigm. Patterns were one noble attempt and, though they have done much good to draw attention to the value of experience and of the human element in programming, it is unlikely that computer science will ever achieve anything remotely approaching Alexander's vision or level of systems thinking. It is rare that software achieves a true paradigm shift in the Kuhnian sense. Perhaps we're a conservative bunch. And our fascination with novelty sometimes keeps us even from the simplest learnings; many of the tenets of the vernacular components movement hark back to early principles of object-oriented design that experience suggests should have been dropped after only a few years of experience.

But there are new signs of seeds of change. Perhaps the industry can't easily suffer a revolution, but it can tolerate a move to new techniques that build on the status quo. There is a strong and recurring move to find programming and design expression that go beyond objects and things to concepts and features. That is the essence of intentional programming, for example and, to a large degree, of techniques such as domain engineering. This vein of thought is blossoming in a wide range of forums across the industry. We see it in the vulgar (non-Alexanderian) pattern movement; we see it in aspect-oriented programming; we see it in the resurgence of generic programming and in techniques such as multi-paradigm design. And as conferences like OOPSLA focus less and less on the foundations of those things called objects and more and more on conceptual extensions, we start thinking less about parts and more about systems and features. And as OOPSLA shrinks, conferences like GCSE are becoming more numerous and popular. There is a broad-based move in this direction today. And this book finds itself squarely in the middle of this shift. I believe that the reader should neither underestimate the significance of this shift nor of this book's role in both communicating and shaping that shift. We are at the threshold of an evolution, and this book is one of the early normative works of this new genre.

This book perhaps reflects a degree of maturation in computer science that, for the first time, attempts to legitimize an integrative view in its own right rather than extol a technique by differentiating it from its predecessors. As such, the book covers much ground and embraces many disciplines: components, objects, aspects, reflection, intentional programming and generic programming for the technology-focussed, and domain engineering for the systems thinkers. It is a great introduction to both emerging and established techniques for those who are encountering them for the first time. An uninformed glance at this book might take it to be a compendium of existing practice, certainly in the area of domain engineering, but in the broader arena of things beyond objects as well.

Yet this book is more than a collection of techniques. The book develops strong themes around unifying principles that tie the pieces together, most notably domain engineering and metaprogramming. The authors treat the reader to a broad survey of domain engineering and guide the reader to appreciate its essence. Perhaps more than any single idea, domain engineering provides a common thread or theme that one could use to "explain" generative programming. But more than that, the authors draw on other schools of programming as building blocks that can be used to delineate gestalten that amplify each other in a broad, cogent vision called generative programming. The result is certainly more than the sum of the parts; most of the parts have been around for years, but an understanding of how to bring them together is just now emerging and receiving broad exposure.

It's crucial to understand that this book is not just some refreshing diversion nor just an exposition of some noteworthy niche techniques. It is a harbinger of a broader enlightenment that opens the door to a new age. It is the coming of age of techniques, such as reflection, metaprogramming, and aspects that could augment and even displace objects as the foundations of mainstream programming practice in the years to come.

And even if the historical analysis is wrong, it doesn't diminish the book's value. The ideas are sound and timeless. Though the book builds most heavily on the C++ legacy, the ideas should provoke thought in any partisan linguistic community and indeed in the communities for most programming ideologies.

This book is just a beginning. This book invites others to follow: those who will bring methods and processes to help the designer and programmer better master and apply generative programming, and those who will bring formalisms and unifying models that will carry this work into the next generation of research. To those researchers and practitioners who are willing to go behind the confines of objects, this book raises the bar and challenges them to carry its own ideas further. I am sure nothing would please the authors more than if you took up the challenge. The first joy of publishing a book comes for an author when holding the first copy between one's hands, almost in wonder. But the greater joy comes much later, and only vicariously, as the book visibly leaves its mark on emerging practice. Few books offer this return on the authors' investment. I am both hopeful and confident that this will be one of these books, and that is because I believe the power of these ideas will draw you in as a reader and excite you to adopt these new expressive programming and design constructs. I wish you great pleasure in learning from this book, as I did, and exhort you to seek your own place in history as a pioneer who helps take these ideas forward into our discipline through the artisanship of your own programs.

OK but packaging too thin
By Pau Fernández
The packaging was too thin (plástic bag), and part of the book was folded so I will have to put some weight on it to fix it. Otherwise OK.

Interesting but academic
By A Customer
It is unfortunate that they do not mention (and are probably unaware of) the Shlaer-Mellor methodology which is probably the closest we have at present to an industrial workable aproach to generating programs for a wide variety of domains (as opposed to domain specific approaches like Verlog, etc.).

About the Author
C. Henry Edwards is emeritus professor of mathematics at the University of Georgia. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee in 1960, and recently retired after 40 years of classroom teaching (including calculus or differential equations almost every term) at the universities of Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Georgia, with a brief interlude at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton) as an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow. He has received numerous teaching awards, including the University of Georgia's honoratus medal in 1983 (for sustained excellence in honors teaching), its Josiah Meigs award in 1991 (the institution's highest award for teaching), and the 1997 statewide Georgia Regents award for research university faculty teaching excellence. His scholarly career has ranged from research and dissertation direction in topology to the history of mathematics to computing and technology in the teaching and applications of mathematics. In addition to being author or co-author of calculus, advanced calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations textbooks, he is well-known to calculus instructors as author of The Historical Development of the Calculus (Springer-Verlag, 1979). During the 1990s he served as a principal investigator on three NSF-supported projects: (1) A school mathematics project including Maple for beginning algebra students, (2) A Calculus-with-Mathematica program, and (3) A MATLAB-based computer lab project for numerical analysis and differential equations students. David E. Penney, University of Georgia, completed his Ph.D. at Tulane University in 1965 (under the direction of Prof. L. Bruce Treybig) while teaching at the University of New Orleans. Earlier he had worked in experimental biophysics at Tulane University and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in New Orleans under the direction of Robert Dixon McAfee, where Dr. McAfee's research team's primary focus was on the active transport of sodium ions by biological membranes. Penney's primary contribution here was the development of a mathematical model (using simultaneous ordinary differential equations) for the metabolic phenomena regulating such transport, with potential future applications in kidney physiology, management of hypertension, and treatment of congestive heart failure. He also designed and constructed servomechanisms for the accurate monitoring of ion transport, a phenomenon involving the measurement of potentials in microvolts at impedances of millions of megohms. Penney began teaching calculus at Tulane in 1957 and taught that course almost every term with enthusiasm and distinction until his retirement at the end of the last millennium. During his tenure at the University of Georgia he received numerous University-wide teaching awards as well as directing several doctoral dissertations and seven undergraduate research projects. He is the author of research papers in number theory and topology and is the author or co-author of textbooks on calculus, computer programming, differential equations, linear algebra, and liberal arts mathematics.

Average, Could use more worked examples
By A Customer
Luckily I had a very good professor for this class, so I didn't need to depend on the text as much as I might have to in other classes. As an engineering student, I don't ignore theory, but I do need a few more worked examples for the text to be really useful for me. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate rigor and I do like mathematics for its own sake, but, I could have used a little more emphasis on applications than this text provided.

A good differential equations textbook
By A Customer
I think the strength of this textbook is the amount of material it encompasses: this book is used in two separate courses in my school--introduction to DE and engineering analysis. I didn't appreciate the textbook so much until I completed my differential equations course and then looked back at the sections on mechanical vibrations to review for my physics course. I then realized that the explanations and derivations were extremely satisfying, much more than your average introductory physics text. Also, the emphasis on the qualitative aspects of DEs, such as slope fields and phase portraits, aid in the coneptual understanding of the otherwise rigorous computation aspects of the topic. My only complaint is that the proofs could've been done in a more understandable manner.

Just Plain Not Good
By Undergrad
This book has several problems.
1. There are numerous typos in the text as well as in the solutions printed in the back of the book (and in the solutions manual). It can be very frustrating to puzzle over a problem for a long time only to find you were right and the book was wrong.
2. Several important techniques are only explained as short paragraphs in the exercise section (ie Euler Equation substitution, Reduction of Order, and others). You are left to try and figure out how to apply the vague instructions by looking at the solutions manual or asking someone else. I found this to be the biggest problem with the book.
3. The end of each example or concept is marked by a small red box in the margin of the page. These boxes are easy to miss so the distinction between example and theory, as well as between different aspects of the theory will become blurred unless you pay close attention to when the red boxes appear. Consequently results derived from theory and results derived from specific examples tend to blend together.
4. Often the authors add length to problems by providing the given values in non-SI units and the constants of nature in SI units. While this isn't a serious problem with the book, it would make the book needlessly annoying if you were using it for self study.
For the class that required this book I ended up checking out a different textbook on differential equations from the library to learn from. I only used this one for the questions we were assigned. If you have any choice in the matter I would recommend getting a different book.

The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance, by Jeff S. Volek, Stephen D. Phinney

A Revolutionary Program to Extend Your Physical and Mental Performance Envelope.

Our recent book 'The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living' was written for health care professionals, championing the benefits of carbohydrate restriction to manage insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type-2 diabetes.

In response, our athlete friends asked "What about us?"

This companion book is our answer, and it could be titled: 'The Art and Science of Avoiding the BONK'.

But actually, it is much much more than that. The keto-adapted athlete benefits from superior fuel flow not only when nearing glycogen depletion, but also during training, recovery, and in response to resistance exercise as well.

"On a well designed ketogenic diet as recommended by Jeff and Steve, I consume up to 4200 Calories per day while maintaining 6-7% body fat. This transformation has increased my power to mass ratio and allows a high level of performance in a range of activities. Equally if not more important is the efficiency with which I operate in every facet of my life. My energy level in the keto-adapted state is constant and nver undulates." Tony Ricci, MS, CSCS, LDN, CISSN, CNS. High Performance Coach/Sports Nutritionist

The final pieces of the Low-Carb jigsaw
By Stephen Ferguson
This is not an completely unbiased review. Having "caught" a bad case of Type 2 diabetes a year ago I quickly discovered Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars and followed his (still somewhat controversial) ketogenic diet plan, and began to devour as much information as possible on low-carb diets. Although I found inspiration from many places (including Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health (Vintage), and Dr Feinman's blog), the more I read, the more I came across Phinney and Volek.

Their companion volume The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable gave me the best possible practical guide and scientific justifcation for pursuing a low-carb lifestyle, and gave me the confidence to reduce my HbA1c from 10.2% to 4.5% (a properly non-diabetic number).

However, as a keen runner training for a half-marathon, I had still had significant concerns about attempting endurance events without resorting to carbohydrate fuelling that would disrupt my ketosis and aggravate my diabetes. Despite many hours trawling the internet I couldn't find much quality advice on ketosis and athletic perfomance, and had many questions relating to "liver-dumping" and the necessity for pre and post exercise fuelling. This book answered every question and I devoured it in a single sitting.

After adopting their advice (as predicted) I ran two of the worst 5k races of my life, followed by rapid improvements week by week, which eventually led to me knocking almost 2 minutes off my 5k PB. I can't wait to run my first carb-free half marathon later this year.

It's too easy to say that a book changed your life, but in this case both the "Art and Science Books" have fundamentally impacted my health and my athletic performance.

Very highly recommended.

Not Just For Athletes, Nutritional Ketosis Information Invaluable For EVERYONE!
By Jimmy Moore from Livin' La Vida Low-Carb
I am a great admirer of the work of the authors Dr. Jeff Volek and Dr. Stephen Phinney who I am privileged to call personal friends of mine. These two men have done some of the most extraordinary research into the health benefits of low-carb diets in the past few decades and deserve an enormous amount of respect for their contribution to the world. They teamed up with Duke researcher Dr. Eric Westman on New Atkins for a New You in 2010 and then released their phenomenal book The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living in 2011.

As a follow-up book to the latter release, Volek/Phinney wanted to share some important information about how a high-fat, low-carb ketogenic diet is an excellent way to maximize athletic performance by advocating for athletes to get into a keto-adapted state in this book THE ART AND SCIENCE OF LOW CARBOHYDRATE PERFORMANCE. And for the niche audience of trainers and athletes wanting to choose the low-carb path to maximized performance, this book is excellent.

However, there is a section in this book that I believe includes invaluable information for EVERYONE who wants to be as healthy as they can possibly be. Beginning on page 89 in the "Personalization" chapter, Volek/Phinney discuss "finding your ketone zone" and encourage people to begin measuring their blood ketones using a monitor very similar to a blood glucose monitor. While the testing strips for measuring your blood levels of ketosis can be a bit pricey (each strip costs about $2-6 depending on where you find them - See the cost of the Ketone Test Strips here on Amazon), the information you learn about yourself is incredible! Far too often, people who eat a low-carb diet use Ketostix to measure the ketones in their urine. This can be an insufficient way to measure ketones, so the blood ketones are much more reliable.

Since reading this book a couple of months ago, I have made tweaks to my low-carb diet suggested in the book to raise blood ketone levels to the suggested .5-3.0 millimolar level where "nutritional ketosis" can take place. I went into this level by Day 4 (after starting at .1 on the first day despite eating a pretty good low-carb diet for years) and haven't come out since. Hunger is zapped, energy level has skyrocketed, mental clarity is sharper than it has ever been, I'm eating about 85% fat in my diet with no ill effects--oh yeah, I've lost over 25 pounds and counting! It's amazing how shifting the focus to some rather simple things like cutting carbohydrates and protein, increasing fat and exercise and getting ample amounts of medium chain triglycerides can make such a noticeable difference in how well your body functions and performs.

So if you're considering getting this book and wonder if it is ONLY for athletes, the answer is no. YOU need this book and probably don't even know it. Get it and read all 162 pages--absorb the information, apply it to your own life and watch the magic of livin' la vida low-carb become real right before your very eyes. If you're a long-term low-carber and think you're doing well, start testing your blood ketones to see where you REALLY stand. It might just shock you!

Fantastic book with advice for all, not just triatheletes
By Fortune R. Elkins
For those new to low-carb but with some exercise experience, this book explains both how to follow a good low-carb diet in plain English, and also how to achieve great exercise results while doing so. For long-time low-carbers, it offer tips to fine-tune your keto-adaptation.

I think there's a special audience for this book as well - women. Many women who've tried every other diet eventually try low-carb and are delighted with the results. Yet after a time they may plateau. How to break through? Exercise!

But how to exercise when low-carb? Most exercise books will tell you serious exercise is impossible without carbs. So a lot of women don't expand beyond their usual walking or light yoga. This book should help reassure women that endurance and resistance exercise is possible & helpful. It definitely puts the "carbs are necessary for exercise" myth to rest.

How to use your already existing keto-adaptation to your maximum advantage? Low-carb books will tell you that you need to exercise, but they don't help explain why exercise plus low-carb is uniquely effective. This book does.

Exactly how deep in ketosis are you now and would getting more deeply into it improve both your weight-loss and exercise? Drs. Volek and Phinney tell you how to figure this out for yourself with an inexpensive glucometer, which will remove a lot of frustrating trial-and-error.

Finally women can see how dialing their carbs up and down affects their level of ketosis, allowing them to measure and control their keto-adaptation to support their personal weight and exercise goals. The book closes with some snapshots of intense athletes, including a 60-year-old female low-carb marathon runner!

This book is a great companion to the authors' other two: New Atkins for a New You, as well as the seminal Art & Science of Low-carb Living. I recommend you get all 3.

I also hope they expand the "Art & Science" concept to all aspects of low-carb. I'd love to see and Art & Science for diabetics, for women, for kids & teens, for college students, for those with thyroid issues, for autoimmune conditions, for mothers-to-be and those breastfeeding, etc. Writing in the same plain and clear style, such a series could delve into the concerns of each group to offer hope and practical advice.

Spacewreck : Ghostships and Derelicts
By Ryan W Mortensen
As per usual with Cowley's books, "Spacewreck" is impressively imaginative. The art is, for the most part, something that allows the imagination run wild and, as all art should, provokes a different response from each viewer. And, like his other books, the text is somewhat technical, but in a sense that it adds great depth to each visual piece. One neat thing that jumps out at the reader who is familiar with the other books in this collection, are the familiarity of certain spaceships. I.e. The reader may have seen one particular example in another context. All in all, not the best of the group of space-themed books by Cowley, but very creative nevertheless.

A great part of my childhood
By Colonel Batguano
Oh how I miss the science fiction and fantasy art of the 70s and 80s. You can't go wrong with any of the Terran Trade Authority books, but this one is my favorite. I highly recommend it.

Great book - good memories! :)
By Carlitos.Thunderpants
When i was in primary school, this was my Library-time go-to book to fire up the imagination, it used to scare the crap out of me because it had a skeleton of some dude crash landed on the front who only had one eye! and more dereliction and skeletons inside!.

For the longest time I had forgotten what it was called, I thought the title was something else, recently I found one of the paintings on FB from it and managed to track down the name and buy a copy of the book finally!.

This was the first Art book that got me into Sci-fi art. There were a number of other Sci-fi book covers to look at in the fiction section but this one kept me fascinated for a while during library-time more than anything else.
