I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story

This story is a continuation of Texas Heat. I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story. Tate being part of the Blake family definitely was a great call and showing that he "fits" in completely while remaining a stand out personality was one of my favorite parts of the story. This story definitely increased the interaction with the parents and their children. In my opinion, it makes for better character development when we see that interaction along with the love story.

Tate and Isabelle are one of my favorite pairings. I love that they appear opposites in personality, but in reality, they are such a great fit for each other. Both have similar stories in their background that provides a level playing field for them to start and from there this author has written a story that is believable and has characters that makes you want to know more and more about them. I would love to know more about Tate & Isabelle's story. As they continue growing it would be great to see them expand their characters within this family of stories.

Finally Izzy and Tate's Story

After Book 7 I must say I ma very pleased I just love Isabelle and Tate's story they love has been evolving since they were introduced in Texas Heat. Unlike Slow Heat, Isabella and Tate have a part one and now this book is part two. There love story is simply wonderful just as Ms. Laurel did with reigning characters of the series Morgan and Seth. Ms. Laurel writes so fully that even if you haven't been reading the series you could read this one and enjoy it and still follow what's happening with this family. This is a wonderful family and I look forward to reading more of their romances and of course expanding families. Ms. Laurel gives you just the right amount of sexy, totally sensual love scenes and plenty of caring and hot men to enjoy. Izzy and Tate are just so good together that I would encourage you to read their first story Texas Heat the Blake's are an amazing family. This is a great beach summer read!

My goodness Rhonda please write about another family similar to the Blakes. I have really enjoyed Tate and Isabelle's story.

Isabelle is sweet, beautiful, kind but also strong. She is just the kind of woman Tate needed... someone who believes in him. This book focused on female spouses of the Blake men. I love the relationship these woman have with each other and the love they have for their husbands and in laws.

I must admit this book had me laughing at "The Naughy Nerds". I refuse to spoil the fun by giving out information. It is so refreshing to see the family grow with love, marriage and babies being born.

Tate and Isabelle have such a strong sweet love and nothing can come between them.

I refuse to give all the plots and daily crises away. I highly recommend that you read this book. However start with volume one to completely understand. The series is written as a saga.

Rational choice theorists have made great strides in elucidating the effects of institutions on a variety of social outcomes, but they have paid insufficient attention to the social dynamics that lead to the emergence of these institutions. Typically, these institutions have been assumed to be a given, rather than considered as outcomes requiring explanation in their own right. Sociological theorists, in contrast, have long appreciated the role of social structural constraints in the determination of outcomes but have neglected the role of individual agents.

Michael Hechter is professor emeritus in the department of Sociology at the University of Washington. He is the author of numerous books. He became an Elected Fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2004 and has been featured in Who's Who. He is also currently on editorial boards for a numerous amount of journals.

Karl-Dieter Opp is professor of sociology at Univesitat Leipzig. He has been a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology since 1999 and has been member of the Council and Treasurer since 2000. He is also current on the advisory board for the magazine Mind and Society.

Reinhard Wippler is professor of theoretical sociology at the University of Utrecht and scientific director of the Interuniversity Center for Sociological Theory and Methodology.

Asimov Paves The Way For Future Sci-Fi

Biron Farrill wakes early one morning at his university dorm room on Earth to find a radiation bomb planted in his closet and that his father, the influential Rancher of Rhodia has been executed by political enemies. Biron is forced to seek out his father's true killer while fleeing from the Tyranni - rulers of the Nebular Empire planets. Seeking sanctuary with nobles on another planet, Biron encounters Aretmisia and Gillbert, daughter and uncle of the ruling house who both share his desire to break free of Tyranni rule. Together they seek the "rebellion planet" and a revolutionary document, both of which might not actually exist.

Almost a novella by today's standards, The Stars, Like Dust still has an amazing capability to stand the test of time (despite the fact that some of the popular opinions on science in the early 50's proved false). In fact these early Asimov novels really paved the way for future authors and others involved in Science Fiction entertainment. Common themes include things like dictatorial monarchies as the normal form of planetary government (which we'd often see later in the Star Wars universe and in the Klingon and Romulan empires of the Star Trek universe) and elements of star spanning space operas. Biron and Aretemisia could be the forerunners of Han Solo and Princess Leia in their dramatic love/hate relationship.

Like many of Asimov's Robot novels (Caves of Steel, Robots of Dawn), The Stars Like Dust blurs the lines between mystery/thriller and Science Fiction - a futuristic mystery/thriller, if you will. Occasionally character interaction and dialog dips towards the cheesy but changes to common usage of language when this novel was written (over 60 years ago) may have something to do with that. The Stars, Like Dust paves the way for where so much good (and sometimes bad) science fiction would go over the next six decades.

Have you ever willingly read a writing guide cover-to-cover? I have.

In the past, I've had writing guides that I've flipped through, maybe I've read a page or two if I've needed to look up a specific issue, but this is the first time I've ever read a writing guide all the way through. This guide is entertaining!

Grammar Girl, because of her training in language and in the hard sciences, understands how to explain the importance of proper usage for clarity and she also explains when sometimes rules exist out of tradition. She also explains grammar myths and how to handle people who still buy into them. Her examples are easy to understand and fun (I especially like the section on misplaced modifiers). The quick and dirty tips and the pop quizzes throughout are also fun and handy.

Other bonuses include tips that perhaps were not designed specifically to help ESL learners, but would still be immensely helpful for such students. Tips like FANBOYS and ordering adjectives, for example, are things that many native speakers take for granted, but having them described simply but completely is helpful for any user of the English language.

Also included are tips for drafting and proofreading one's own writing. Additionally, she gives tips that as a comp teacher, I've tried to drill into my students' minds, like "show, don't tell," "avoid cliches like the plague," and "you need to know if a website is credible." I am so happy I have Grammar Girl to back me up on these points.

Personal anecdote: A couple of years ago, I was teaching comma rules to a technical writing class. I was trying to explain restrictive elements and nonrestrictive elements to the class and several of the students weren't getting it. They were frustrated and I was frustrated. As I read the section in this book about restrictive elements and nonrestrictive elements, I realized that if I'd just explained it the way Grammar Girl did, a whole lot of headaches would have been prevented. This book is coming with me to school every day so that when a grammar or usage question comes up, I can simply take Grammar Girl's wording and examples to explain it much more succinctly than I am often able on my own.(It's hard to come up with sentence examples on the fly, have you noticed?)

As a teacher, I have seen many writing handbooks, most of which cost upwards of $50. This book is a delight-- not only is it the best one I've seen in that it is fun, complete, and user-friendly, but it's also truly inexpensive. I am requiring it for my college composition class this fall, and I recommend it to every high school, ESL, and college writing teacher out there. Even if you don't require it as a text, you should still have it on hand in your book bag (like me) or have a copy or two in your classroom. Your students will thank you.

Helpful tips for writers of all ages

"The Ultimate Writing Guide for Students" is divided into an introduction, five chapters, an appendix, grammar at a glance, glossary and index, among other things. The five chapters focus on parts of speech, crafting sentences, understanding punctuation, quick tips on "dirty" or confusing words, and wisdom about writing as a whole.

Pop quizzes are scattered throughout to reinforce the explanations, and Grammar Girl offers easy and fun memory tricks to help with rules.

My favorite section of the "Ultimate Writing Guide for Students," is Grammar Girl's "Quick and Dirty Tips." Listed in alphabetical order, these entries range from "affect versus effect" and "farther versus further" to "it's versus its" and "lay versus lie." These entries get to the heart of the matter quickly and are easy to understand. And, as always, Grammar Girl's wit makes finding answers to sticky questions much more enjoyable.

My one complaint is the binding. This may seem trivial to some, but I would prefer a spiral binding for greater usability. I hate having to use another book to hold my reference book open. I suggest purchasing the paperback so that it can be spiral bound at Kinko's.

Is she my twin?

I teach college students English Composition. I feel like Grammar Girl (Mignon Fogarty) took my curriculum and converted it to a book. This writing guide for students is perfect. It's written in a very logical order and in a style that students should find easy to follow. As an instructor, I love her wit and obvious enthusiasm for grammar. I know most students are not excited to read about English and its grammatical rules, but this book makes those rules fun and gives hints on how to remember them. Although the title says this book is "for students," I think anyone who communicates in written form should own it. That means you.

Easy to read and learn with.

I am a Board Certified Allergist/Immunologist and I bought the book to help me to solidify my knowledge of basic immunology.
Since the American Board of Allergy and Immunology only issues 10-year certification --and I took the exam the first time in 1991 -- I have to take a multiple choice recert exam soon. The book is helping me prepare by reviewing current basic Immunology in a very easy to understand (and therefore easy to REMEMBER) fashion.
The prose is not prosaic, it's fun! The writing describes the immune system's structure and functioning clearly and logically. It does an excellent job of tying everything together, which can be difficult with the expanding "octopus" of detail that comprises modern immunology.
I highly recommend this for physicians and students of medicine or immunology.

Fantastic; the perfect exposition of basic immunology

After slogging through Janeway's _Immunobiology_ and most of a course in immunology, I had memorized a lot of facts but still understood next to nothing about the overall "design" and operation of the immune system. I found _How the Immune System Works_ the perfect antidote to my existential ennui. I recommend it highly and wish there were similar books on other related subjects.

The main pleasure of this book is that it's very "why-oriented" - Sompayrac explains how each mechanism fits into the grand scheme of immunology. Another key innovation is that he points out areas of immunology that aren't well understood yet; that way, you can recognize them as gaps in the science at large rather than as gaps in your own understanding.

Other virtues include brevity, judicious omission of irrelevant detail (this book omits the customary table of 30-odd cytokines along with a list of the 10 or 15 actions of each, for example), and an engaging and readable style.

2006 UPDATE (ORIGINAL REVIEW WAS MAY, 2002): I'm so glad to see this book continuing to get great reviews. Having completed the rest of medical school, I can now say that this is the single highest-value text I encountered on any medical subject.

Keeping It As Simple As Possible

The immune system is distributed throughout the body, but can still usefully be viewed as singular. The body is always under threat from tiny invaders, and it is only the various parts of our immune system, working together, that makes it possible for us to repel them. Without it, we would be dead very quickly.
This book gives a good overview of the immune system, with enough detail to understand how the various cells and tissues do what they do. How does the system recognize invaders? How does it recognize self, and leave self alone? Why is foreign tissue rejected? How can the system go wrong? What is the role of the Major Histocompatibility Complex? How do we get immunity? The mechanisms cells use are molecular�protein, mostly�and the immune system is all about protein switches, detectors, and processors. The above questions and others are answered by invoking the protein mechanisms, and explaining how the cells of the immune system can do the magic that they do in recognizing and responding appropriately to the millions of different possible invaders, and why some parts of the system take longer than others to swing into action.
The only background you really need for this book is an intelligent layman�s interest in science. You should know what proteins are (chains of amino acids), more-or-less how DNA and RNA work, and the ability to follow a technical discussion. The book was written for medical students, but knowledge of anatomy and physiology is not put to use here. The discussion is chatty, informal, and repetitive. Each of the first several chapters ends in a summary diagram of the system interactions that have been discussed up to that point, and each next chapter begins by giving an extensive review of the previous one.
In spite of this, the exposition is confusing. The author is doing what he can, but the immune system is inherently difficult to follow. It consists of many sloppy loops that interact with each other in approximate and varying ways. Moreover, certain important interactions are still not understood very well (as the author emphasizes), so there is some fuzziness in the picture. But the last two chapters, on auto-immune diseases and cancer, use what went before, and give the reader some perspective on the general mechanisms.
This is a satisfying book, and a real service. It is bringing together knowledge that otherwise would be scattered in research papers, or buried in technical books, and making it accessible. The level is low enough to explain the mechanisms, but leaves out much messiness that clinicians would probably need. No one would feel when they had finished only this book that they could treat an immune system disorder, but they would at least feel that they could comprehend it.

About the Author

THOMAS F. GOLDMAN, JD, is Professor Emeritus of Bucks County Community College, where he was a Professor of Law and Management and Director of the Center for Legal Studies and the Paralegal Studies Program. A former member of the Paralegal Studies Advisory Board and mentor at Thomas Edison State College, where he developed the Advanced Litigation Support and Technology Certificate Program in the School of Professional Studies. A founding advisory board member of the American University of Phnom Phen, he created the legal studies curriculm. He is an author of textbooks in paralegal studies and technology, including The Paralegal Professional, Fourth Edition; Accounting and Taxation for Paralegals; Civil Litigation: Process and Procedures, Third Edition; SmartDraw: A Hands-On Tutorial and Guide; Litigation Practice: E-Discovery and Technology; and AbacusLaw: A Hands-On Tutorial and Guide.

An accounting and economics graduate of Boston University and of Temple University School of Law, Professor Goldman has an active international law, technology law, and litigation practice. He has worked extensively with paralegals and received the award of the Legal Support Staff Guild. He was elected the Legal Secretaries Association Boss of the Year for his contribution to cooperative education by encouraging the use of paralegals and legal assistants in law offices. He also received the Bucks County Community College Alumni Association Professional Achievement Award. He has been an educational consultant on technology to educational institutions and major corporations and a frequent speaker and lecturer on educational, legal, and technology issues.

Great book! It's easy to read and has a great deal of information.

It's a course-required book, so I had to get it. Since its more of a introductory type of class I decided to rent it instead. It's pretty easy to read and has a great deal of up to date information in the legal industry. Technology has definitely evolved for the legal industry and it's only going to get better and more advance.
