Good, not Great

Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of Brad. His Seeking Alpha articles are top-notch and provide some of the best analyses in the business. The same can't be said about this book. While he does a good job at analyzing all of Trump’s assets (more so than any other writer to date), I found the writing to be rather poor…in both substance and grammar. It amazes me that it took him 3 years to write this and that his team of editors didn’t pick up on some glaring typos. When I first started noticing them, I just chalked it up to me reading it quickly and, perhaps, just missing something. I figured he deserved the benefit of the doubt – I mean how could an author release a book they spent 3 years working on without having multiple people proofread it, multiple times? Right? I’m not going to go back and highlight all the screw-ups, but it was in his chapter about the Scottish courses when it dawned on me that I shouldn’t have given him the benefit of the doubt. I actually thought I was going crazy when, on page 142, he repeated the same stupid line about that Par 3 being tough. WTF?! Then, just one page later, he refers to Turnberry when it should have been Doonbeg (re: the former owners). Yes, I realize these are little things but it just amazes me that he’d publish something like this without going over it again and again. Plus, I didn’t feel like going back through the first 141 pages to nitpick. I don’t even want to get into the math in his analysis but it’s definitely flawed (just because Brad wasn’t able to pull mortgage info from public records, it doesn’t mean that there’s no debt on some of those deals. Ever hear of private lenders…like a debt fund? As if he came out-of-pocket to fund the “hundreds of millions of dollars” in renovations after buying some of those properties on the cheap. You’re better than that, Brad). Again, this was a much better and more detailed dive than any other writers’ attempts…but far from perfect. Btw, was there any mention of his ownership stake in The Apprentice? Don’t think so.

Very interesting. I enjoyed reading it. There are quite a number of careless typographical and grammatical errors in the book that lend to the impression that the book was hastily prepared and inadequately edited and proofed.
